1. Equine Infectious Anaemia in Northumberland

September 7, 2010 by Tay Valley Vets

    · Animal Health is currently carrying out an investigation at premises in Northumberland following positive laboratory results for equine infectious anaemia in a routine post import test from a group of imported horses.

    · The premise is under restriction and a full investigation is underway.

    · Horse owners/keepers should remain vigilant for any signs of disease

    Clinical signs include

    Unexplained high fever  ( 106F/ 41.1C)

    Not eating

    Lethargy / Anaemia

    Bleeding

    Swellings

EIA is transmitted between horses by transfer of blood usually by biting insects.

  2. Equine flu

August 14, 2010 by Tay Valley Vets

An outbreak of Equine Flu has been confirmed in Nottinghamshire. We have not seen any coughing in our yards to date but with the movement of horses at its summer high there is always the chance of spread to Perthshire/Fife.

  3. Worms

TVVEC is now offering in-house worm egg counts for your horses. This will be done by our qualified vet nurses and should mean a much cheaper and faster turn round of results plus interpretation and advice on managing your yards worming policy. Please ask for details.

  6. Comings and Goings

July 19, 2010 by Tay Valley Vets

As many of you know senior partner Andrew Herd was knocked from his bike last October suffering severe spinal injuries. He has made remarkable progress but unfortunately not to the point of being able to return to practice and has therefore made the decision to retire. Andrew worked hard to acquire the site and develop the modern purpose built premises we are proud to have. After 20 years at Tay Valley Vets he will be missed by clients and colleagues alike and we all wish him well for the future.

Laura Stewart receptionist/accounts manager is away on maternity leave, we all wish her the best.  Jacqui Parker has moved from evening to morning shifts and we are delighted to welcome Jenifer Clyde McMaster. Jenifer is a trainee veterinary nurse but will initially cover reception and then will join the nursing team on Laura’s return.
