Retiral of Rob Whiteford
March 18, 2009 by Tay Valley VetsRob has decided to retire from the practice at the end of May 2009. He has worked in the practice for 32 years and is well known to almost all of our clients. He has played a major role in the modernisation of the practice including the move from the old surgery in Kinnoull Causeway to the current location in our purpose-built premises. Rob has maintained interest in all sectors of the practice as well as developing a niche in veterinary acupuncture and carrying out OVS duties and POVS duties with the meat industry. All of us at Tay Valley Vets wish him well in his retiral.

STRANGLES
March 17, 2009 by Tay Valley VetsAs of 17th March we have 2 confirmed outbreaks in the Perth area. These originate from 2 completely separate and unconnected sources. Both yards are acting in a responsible manner and both have implemented strict biosecurity measures. Infected horses have been isolated and all owners have agreed not to move horses off the yards until the outbreaks are under control. Strangles does not spread far in the air. The main route of spread is direct contact between horses, by people handeling horses and not disinfecting or by shared water troughs. Please be aware of the symptoms and contact us straight away if you are concerned.
High temperature
Off food
“Snotty” nose
Swollen glands
Cough
Lethargy
The BHS Scotland has produced a good informative leaflet entitled STEPS (Strategy To Eradicate and Prevent Strangles) which is available at the surgery.
